It’s August; it’s Woman's month!!!

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I’m not cute or built to suit a fashion model size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I’m telling lies.
I say,

It’s in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,

It’s the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,

It’s in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care, Cause i’m a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That’s me.

This is by far one of my favourite poems by Dr Maya Angelou simply because it speaks of the uniqueness and majesty of every woman. You should hear her when she recites it; it’s magical.

Women of all shapes and sizes, ethnicity and culture have what I call mother nature’s gift; they bear all things within them. And by this I am not only referring to child birth and all that jazz. I mean every wonder there is.

No one loves like a woman. Nobody! If you think I’m lying ask a mother or even a woman in love; we love with all that we are. Now, I’m sure that some of you might be thinking not all women are “perfect” which is true, neither one of us is. I don’t think we ever claimed to be. But we sure are close to it. Lol

So, this woman's month, my sisters, treat yourselves well. Note, i didn’t say wait to be treated well by someone else, I said “treat yourself well”. Treat yourself with kindness. Be good to yourself. Go ahead and spoil yourself, fall in love with yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror and say “honey, you are Lit!” Let the someone else, the father preferably, take care of the kids. Do what doctor Angelou says and that is to walk into a room and own it. Let your light shine. Remember your worth, remember who you are bit most importantly remember who's you are. And do it with conviction and purpose.

Now, get it done ladies. Forget the haters because you don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. You are way too fabulous for that. Do you honey and let the rest watch you SHUT IT DOWN!
